Katong

About

Katong, often called Tanjong Katong, is a residential district in the Marine Parade planning area, running from around Fort Road to Joo Chiat. It was on the sea until land reclamation from the 1960s moved the shore south to what is now East Coast Park, and wealthy families once built their villas and seaside houses along it. Katong is known for its food, Peranakan cooking above all and Katong laksa, a spicy noodle soup. The Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple is 140 m from the centre, Marine Parade Central and Dunman food centres are within 560 m, and Marine Parade station (Thomson-East Coast Line) is 340 m away.
