Joo Chiat is the conservation area around Joo Chiat Road in Katong, named after Chew Joo Chiat, a businessman described as the richest man in the district. The road crosses East Coast Road and ends at Marine Parade Road beside Marine Parade station (Thomson-East Coast Line), 780 m from the centre point we use. Its houses have won heritage awards, among them a UNESCO Asia-Pacific award for the conservation of 125 Joo Chiat Road. Dunman Food Centre is 50 m from the centre, Masjid Khalid 610 m and The Intan, a museum of Peranakan objects, 640 m.
