Chinatown
About
Chinatown grew south-west of the Singapore River, where the Raffles Town Plan, also called the Jackson Plan, put the Chinese migrants' quarter of trade, clan associations and cultural institutions. It now covers five precincts, Kreta Ayer, Telok Ayer and Ann Siang with Club Street among them, and conservation rules have kept much of its shophouse architecture. Jamae Mosque, Sri Mariamman Temple and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple all stand within 250 m of the centre. Eight hawker centres are within 800 m, more than in any other area on this site, from Chinatown Complex to Maxwell and Amoy Street. Chinatown station (North-East and Downtown lines) is 110 m away.
